Arthur's Pass - November 18th

On the 18th I flew into Christchurch to meet up with Adam and Andrew. Immediately I spotted Andrew at the airport and we promptly got lost on the way to baggage claim...typical start. After considering convincing a limo driver that I was in fact Mr. Herzinger, we hopped into the trusty Nissan Bluebird, a car named so strike fear in all cars named after worms. We immediately headed west and made PBJ sandwiches...Our goal was to drive through Arthur's Pass, one of the most scenic drives in all of New Zealand as it winds it way through the Southern Alps. What we could see through the rain and clouds was very scenic, but as Adam so eloquently put it, the clouds were "f'ing up our universe".

We finally settled in at a lodge in the town of Arthur's Pass...population 50. Adam and I bonded over bombarding Andrew's bed with everything in the room. Yes, we are 25 years old. We also got free bedding from Wendy, our hostel hostess, by saying that we didn't want bedding if it cost money. I think she felt bad. We also found out from that the man who ealier offered us three dollar pints later in the evening had been in prison for an unknown crime, so of course we definitely headed over to his bar.

The next day brought out the sun and a perfect day for a hike. We took a walk up Scott's Trail until our runny noses got the better of us. It was a beautiful view the whole way up, and a good start to the South Island
