Random Thoughts

Just some things that I've been pondering

1) As much as I love concerts, I seem to miss out on all the ones I really want to see because I tend to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Case in point, I wanted to see Death Cab for Cutie in Chicago but they were playing on the cusp of my leaving the city...Turns out I could have seen them but by the time I found out, the tickets were all gone. Now that I've back in Detroit, I realize they've moved on to greener pastures and are playing in Europe at places like Kulturhaus Karlstorbahnhof (I swear it's a real place, I wish I could have made it up). I've realized that wintertime in Detroit is not the place to see a good concert...at least until we build a Sprugenheimengleinschlemelersprockenvitchnesky, then we'd be all set.

2) Mike Gansey is God (with apologies to all other Gods). I don't pretend to think that anyone else cares even remotely as much as I do about college basketball, but his steal again UCLA to preserve the win was the wickedest, cleanest steal I've ever seen! I had to change my pants after seeing it.

3) I've been watching a lot of volleyball at Sandcastle lately (indoor beach volleyball in Windsor) and I;ve realized why it's such a popular sport. It's an every man/woman sport. Over the past few weeks I've seen some pretty talented playes, but I've also seen the fat guy in his one "workout shirt" that he wears each week and who hides when the ball is going to hit him. Even better is the woman who wears a golf shirt tucked into a pair of sweat pants to play beach volleyball!!! I leave every week with a few more laughs and a lot more stories.

4) Everyone wants to wrap things in Pizza, After I decided to wrap my hot dog in pizza I saw a skit on Saturday Night Live where they wrap their tacos in pizza. "Pizza!!!....Now that's what I call a taco" (from SNL on Jan 14/06)

I LOVE THE STONES!!

Keep your eyes peeled for the abnormally tall guy on the field at halftime of the Super Bowl...It's official, as a member of a group started by my aunt, I will be rocking out on the field to the Rolling Stones at this years game. I'm not sure of all the details yet but I know it involves us running out on the field and cheering like lunatics for the world's oldest living band. Imagine, a tall skinny Canadian kid at the 50 yard line shouting obscenities to Mick Jagger....who would have thought I'd make it this far.

I have to go to three different rehersals, for what I'm not sure. I'm hoping there is a big choreographed dance sequence, hopefully with the Lions cheerleaders and maybe those fat guys who dance at the Pistons games, because who doesn't love watching a fat guy get down....I'm going to try and bring my camera with me to get some field level shots, but security may be tight in case Ray Finkel tries to bust in....LACES OUT!!!

Every town has a diner, where I'll see you

Exciting times, Death Cab for Cutie was on SNL last night and sounded awesome live...plus plans (no pun intended) are in the works for a DVD:

"The 2006 Grammy-nominated Death Cab for Cutie has also announced the details of their upcoming DVD, DIRECTIONS, an anthology of 12 short films inspired by each track from PLANS. Every song, including the singles 'Soul Meets Body' and 'Crooked Teeth,' will be delivered by a different director. The videos will be unveiled one by one on the band's website www.deathcabforcutie.com in early January."

Just an update..an update for all

Well I'm settling in nicely back here in Windsor. It's funny to be back home after three years living away and another 3 months in a much much bigger city. I had gotten used to not knowing anyone and now it seems like every second person who walks into the clinic knows someone in my family. Work has been awesome so far. The clinic has been a breath of fresh air compared to the ones I worked at in Chicago. Also, we're getting a fair bit of pub since I got there (I'm sure because word got out that I was back in town) Check out next Thursday's Windsor Star for an article on our clinc and also Windsor Life Magazine. I might be in both....

That's about all for now...I'm still trying to figure out what else there is to do in this town, so if anyone wants to hang out, give me a shout. Also, I'm planning a good trip up to Ottawa for Winterlude and hopefully another out to Phoenix to visit mom so I'll let everyone know how those trips go. Hope everybody is well!

I shouldn't be allowed to have spare time

The new job has started and it couldn't have come a moment sooner. Last week I decided to kill free time when my brother had to make a tough decision between pizza or hot dogs for dinner (two equally delicious and nutricious meals). The gears in my head, while admittedly rusty and in need of repair, kicked into gear and it struck me that no one should ever have to choose between the two. That is how the Pizza Dog came into being. The premis is simple, why use a bun for a hot dog when you could easily wrap it in a slice of pizza, thus capitalizing on the tremendous flavour of both. I have gone to the trouble of including the recipe below:

1 Hot Dog
1 Slice of Pizza (toppings to your liking)

Cook hot dog and pizza. Wrap pizza diagonally around the hot dog. Eat

It really was a delicious combination which I hope to try again, as long as my arteries will let me.

Thank god I have a job
